True Concepts Seminars
Seminars are back on at least in Canada!
We are in the process of creating a seven hour training for our upcoming event in September on the Trauma Informed Chiropractor and technique considerations for people with complex needs.
We cannot talk technique with complex needs if we don’t understand PEOPLE who have complex needs. In our Vitality Shift program we separate the difference between a “case history” and a “life history” upon intake- because someone’s perceived experience of their life is more important to understand them that their perceived issue they may think we can “fix”
A Trauma informed practitioner doesn’t assume experiences are traumatic or not- they simply know than most people have experienced either multiple events beyond their capacity to handle (trauma memory) or complex trauma- being in heightened habitual stress response and environments that seem “normal” to them. Ironically- I contend this fits the bill for many practitioners- personally as well. But I digress. When we lack assumptions- we strengthen understanding. Understanding how a body response makes sense. And how we can make it make sense to our people. When we make assumptions- we actually systemically re create trauma (without knowing it) by pathologising a body into broken pieces- further demeaning a human. It’s an embedded desire for chiropractors to pathologically look at someone.
You are trained that way. You are regulated that way. You are systemized in your office that way. And I contend you have been coached that way. Even those of us who believe they are in this “vitality” model – still do it. It’s a massive shift to see someone different and seek to ensure your systems don’t do the very thing you are trying to avoid- further hurt people- by unknowingly re traumatizing then. By your questions, by your procedures, even by the chiropractic adjustment …
